Coach Marie Lewis has taught at Coosa High Schoolsince 1987. She coached the CHS Girls Basketball team from 1987-1994. She won several Region and Sub-Region championships and made a State Second Round appearance in 1990. This team (1990) has been the only CHS squad to win the RN-TChristmas Tournament. Coach Lewis also
coached Girls Softball at Coosa for 4 years and chalked up a sub-region title and a 2nd place region finish. Coach Lewis coached the CHS tennis squad for 5 years which included several individual state appearances. Mrs. Lewis returned to coaching high school tennis in 2006 where the Lady Eagles have made 3 Region and 1 State appearance.   Mrs. Lewis is a member of the Rome/Floyd Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Shorter Hall of Fame.    In College Mrs. Lewis (Marie Mercer) played on the Men’s Tennis, Women’s Basketball, and Women’s Volleyball teams at Shorter College .

As a teacher at Coosa High School Mrs. Lewis has been Teacher of the Year twice, STAR teacher, Employee of the Month, Floyd County Distinguished Employee of the Month, and received the Coosa River Basin Award in 2011.  She has been instrumental in working with SPICE in developing Biology and Physical Science manuals and the roll out of the Georgia Performance Science Standards.  She is also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teachers organization.

Singing in the church choir, avid sports fan, hiking, bicyling, traveling, canoeing, reading of medical/science news and mysteries.  Love the outdoors, working with kids and special events.

Wayne Lewis and one son Jonathan Michael deceased 1992.
